I'm Alicia Kanth but, call me Yurtopia. That's my muse name! Sorry I didn't properly icodtrune myself in my last blog post. I also remember lazy summers spent at our grandparents' hunting camp close to the border of Centre and Union Counties. The first thing we did when we arrived was a massive cleaning offensive opening the windows to aerate the house, dusting, wiping out the refridgerator, and sweeping up the rodent droppings. One year, a skunk decided to grace us with its presence! Dad taught me to shoot his rifle at the target in back of the house, Mom and I made huge meals in the army-sized kitchen (I was her sous-chef), my sister and I played cards and board games in the living room, and I read on the screened-in porch in a comfy rocking chair. At bedtime, I didn't like stretching my legs out to the end of the bed because once I found a dead mouse in between the sheets at the end of the bed!The other part of our vacations was spent at Halfway Dam in R.B. Winter State Park. This park was once known as Halfway Dam State Park. The dam was the first Civil Conservation Corps project in Pennsylvania. I loved swimming in the cool lake water and floating on my back, looking up at the trees. We never set up our beach umbrella because it was never as hot there as it was at the coastal beaches.A side note: the people who shared this hunting camp LOVED hunting. Know why? Because of all their wonderful trophies hanging on the walls: deer, bear, raccoon, etc. On one of their unsuccessful outings, they collected deer droppings and made a poop cairn plaque and hung the picture of the so-called kill underneath. My sister and I found this particular trophy so amusing that we still make jokes about it to this day. Enjoy your outdoor activities whatever they may be. Fill us in on your adventures.Best Wishes,Yurtopia
