Has anyone found a work-around for the canont connect to update server error yet? I was really excited when I found this guide because I had been wanting to play JRM for a long time but was too lazy because I own a Mac (also too cheap to buy Windows and use Bootcamp). A friend gave me a copy of theirs, I get all set up, and now I can't play. :(I see above that a non-blocked IP has no issues connnecting and updating. Can you still play on the VPN after you successfully download and update? That might work, but it will still be annoying to bug my friends (if any of them aren't blocked) every time the game updates.
